7 things to make high heels comfortable and safe

First, opt for wider shoes. You may think narrower shoes are sexy and give a more feminine look, but that’s not always the case. Plus, it’s not a price worth paying by squishing your feet. Instead, go for shoes with wider heels and wider toe box. This will be more comfortable and easier to balance, which will lower the pressure on the feet.

Next, go for lower heels. Yes, sky high heels are awesome. But they are really only for special occasions. For a day at the office, especially if you walk around a lot, opt for a 2-inch heel. This gives the best support and keeps the pressure off the toes and the back. Plus 2-inches (5cm) are enough for some nice shoe designs, so you will still look superb.

Third, add gel insoles or extra cushions to the shoes. Some already have such in place, but not all. If your heels don’t add them. You will never regret this decision.

Fourth, if you want to rock sky high heels, especially for a long time, go for a chunky heel. They are in style right now, plus they give extra support. Still, rocking five-inch high heels or more, is not something to be doing on a daily basis.

Fifth, don’t always rely on flats to save you. Sure, they will feel like heaven if you picked the wrong high heels (here’s how to pick the right ones). But if the flats are also made out of rigid fabric, the pain will continue and it won’t be the heels’ fault.

Seventh, practice, practice, practice. If you rarely rock heels, then your experiences will be bad. Wear them at home for about half and hour to break them in and get used to them. Also learn how to walk properly in high heels. It will make a really big difference. When you are done, you will be ready to rock those daring thigh high boots with ease!
