Wearing high boots with a dress can be a bit tricky to pull of right, but the results can certainly be worth it. There are a few simple tips that can help you to wear boots with a dress with style.

In order to wear boots with a dress first you should determine the look you are going for. You can go for a very sexy and provocative look, but you can also go for a casual outfit, a business one or a party one. Each calls for a different type of a combination between the boots and the dress.

So how to wear boots with a dress

First be sure to match the style of the boots with the style of the dress. For example slouch boots won’t really work with a body-hugging dress.

An unwritten rule says that there should always be a little bit of your leg showing between the boots and the end of the dress. So thigh high boots would force a shorter dress and then you might be sending the wrong message (well, it also can technically be the right one, depending on what you are aiming for).

Rules though can be broken or bent. Take the picture above for example. These black leather thigh high boots are usually associated with the “Pretty Woman” scenario, but as you can see they can actually be part of a very stylish outfit. Here the dress is even still fitted but the added details and the jacket are ofsetting the provocative look of the boots making the entire outfit stylish and even a bit classy.

Knee high boots on the other hand can benefit a longer fitted dress. You tights, leggings or stockings can also work with such an outfit and can actually be the differenting factor of whether the outfit is sexy or casual. Tights would point to casual, while naturally stockings will be sexy and leggings in brighter colors can be inbetween.

There is also nothing wrong to wear boots with a long dress. Just be sure that the boots are well fited along the legs and give you a nice slim look. You don’t want to be wearing loose or slouch boots with a long dress.

Also stay alway from too dark colors. It may be tempting but an all black outfit is actually a bit tricky to pull of and not for everyone. Instead a splash of color here and there can work wonders. Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns and colors as long as they are relatively close to each other. Try to avoid color opposites in one outfit.

A golden rule to follow is that you should keep the outfits simple. If you wear boots with a dress, this is already more than a great look when the two are matched properly. You don’t need each and every part of the outfit to draw attention. If the boots have buckles, zippers or so on, then it is even better if the dress is of a very clean design.

The opposite is also true. If your dress has lots of details, straps or whatever, or you plan to add a scarf or other accessories, then pick a pair of classic boots with a slim fit and no buckles, studs or anythng else on them.

And this is about it. Most women tend to avoid wearing boots with a dress because they fell it is too much or a too difficult of an outfit. As you can see though, it is not and it is definately something you should try.
